Wyoming CNA II Training

In Wyoming each agency or institution may adopt policies and procedures which allow functions of a CNA II.

The ADVISORY OPINION in Wyoming defines the CNA LEVEL II (CNA II) ROLE as follows.

Intent of Advisory Opinion:

In accordance with W.S. 33-21-122 (c) (iii) of the Wyoming Nursing Practice Act (NPA), the Wyoming State Board of Nursing (WSBN) has approved the following Advisory Opinion on the CNA II role. The purpose of this opinion is to evaluate the role of the CNA II in providing safe patient care. (Disclaimer: If an activity is not listed in the CNA II Training and Competency Evaluation Course Advisory Opinion, it does not fall within the CNA II Role.)

Role of CNA II:

The role of the CNA II is as follows:

All functions of the CNA;
A CNA II works under the direction of a registered professional nurse/licensed practical nurse
(RN/LPN) who must follow the principles of delegation;
CNA II skills are specifically intended for those patients with chronic, stable conditions where predictable outcomes are expected from these interactions.

  • Sterile technique
  • Oropharyngeal suctioning
  • Urinary catheter
  • Gastrostomy and percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy feeding (PEG) tubes
  • Elimination procedures
  • Capillary blood glucose testing
  • Tracheostomy care
  • Assisting with peripheral IV fluids
