In New Mexico the home health aide is a paraprofessional member of the health care team who works directly under the supervision of a registered nurse.
The state define a HHA as an individual who has completed a course of classes or that has demonstrated competency in assisting patient/clients to provide basic personal care needs. They provides medically intended care to patient/clients such as, but not limited to, taking and recording vital signs, bathing, help with grooming tasks, help with meal times, help with ambulation, oral hygiene and skin care.
The home health aide in New Mexico caries out the health care and assists recipients in all activities of daily living. The HHA will be given the assignment to assist in a manner that will promote an improved quality of life and a safe environment. The aide’s duties and assignments will be in agreement with the recipient’s Individual Service Plan (ISP) and the agency’s plan of care for the recipient.
