Nursing Assistant Relationships with Other Staff
If you want to be a successful nursing assistant then it helps a lot to have good communication skills. The profession of nursing assistant is intricately related to the daily activities of the patients and even their family and friends. You need to maintain a good working relationship with the other medical staff in the course of your service. Therefore you need to establish a good rapport with different people. As you are employed in the medical facility, you need to be in constant communication with physicians, lab technicians, emergency services and surgery units. The ability to communicate will make your job easier and you will be able to establish a good relationship with the other staff.
During the course of duty, you are required to maintain records of all the patients, which are referred to by the nursing staff. You have to be sure to document the correct information about the patients. This includes the vital signs and any changes you observe in the condition of the patient. It is your job to inform the medical staff if the patient under your observation needs some emergency care. In this case, it is vital to have good communication skills to quickly and clearly explain what is required. You should not hesitate to talk to the medical and nursing staff in the hospital.
Nursing assistants have to interact with the patient regularly and effectiveness of the other medical staffs depends on the observations made by the nursing assistants. Nurses and doctors get the information about the condition and history of the patient from the nursing assistant. So, as a nursing assistant, you need to pay attention to each and every activity of the patient. The most common complaint that patients have about nursing assistants is they are not confidential, so one has to keep this in mind at all times.
Many of the nursing assistants think that nurses have the opinion that the information and report they provide to the nursing staffs are not credible because of lack of proper training and education. Nursing assistants often feel that the nursing staffs and medical staffs are ignoring the report provided by them. This may cause the working staff to get divided and lose interest in the patients. It is the duty of the employers to eliminate such conditions of misunderstanding. They need to employ strict rules and regulations that will maintain the discipline among the staff and ensure that each department respects the work of the other.
If the employer makes all the departments aware of the responsibility of others, it can help to eliminate many problems. If they show concern about the work of nursing assistants and assure them they are getting the respect they deserve, it can help them to maintain good relations with the other staff. Everyone in the hospital needs to recognize the abilities of each other. This leads to better quality of service in all departments. Everybody is important in the organization and you need to play a supportive role in helping them. Maintaining good relations plays a vital role in the career development and success of a nursing assistant. So, it is essential to have good communication skills.
