The Patient Care Technician training program in New Hampshire is a six hundred and three hour comprehensive program providing learning experiences which encompass the scope of practice of the Nursing Assistant, Phlebotomist and Electro cardiographer. The experiences occur in the academic setting of Salter School of Nursing & Allied Health classrooms and laboratories, and, in a variety of health care settings within the community.
The New Hampshire PCT training program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to acquire confidence in direct care giving, successful collection, process and transport of laboratory specimens, and the administration of Electrocardiography techniques.
New Hampshire also offers a Patient Care Specialist Certificate program. This is offered at White Mountain Community college. This Patient Care Specialist Certificate program prepares graduates to work in a hospital or long term care center performing a multitude of duties that include functioning as an acute care Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA), a phlebotomist, and as an ECG Technician.
The Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) portion of the program trains students to work in an acute care setting within a hospital assisting with wound care, giving supportive care to patients, taking and recording vital signs, participating in patient transfers, and aid in maintaining the unit. The program also includes rotations within long-term care facilities enabling the student to work primarily with the elderly in assisting them in activities of daily living and focusing on skilled care. After the first semester, students will be able to apply and sit for the LNA exam and apply for licensure in the State of NH.
