In Washington the State Department of Health oversees the training of students and licensing of CNA’s. The department also heads the nurse’s aide registry. Students in Seattle have to complete 85 hours of comprehensive training through a program approved by the state before being allowed to take the state certification exam. Those enrolled for LPN or RN degrees can also take the exam after they fulfill the requirements of the CNA course. The Nursing Assistant-Certified (NAC) program offers preparation for immediate entry-level employment in long-term care and/or home health agencies as well as in hospitals. The program includes theory, skills lab and clinical hours in basic nursing care skills, body mechanics, personal care, communication, and interpersonal skills.

This program is approved by the Washington State Department of Health as a Nursing Assistant Training program. Nursing Assistant students who successfully complete the program will be eligible to take the Washington State Nursing Assistant certification examination.

In just one quarter, Seattle Central College's Certified Nursing Assistant (NAC or CNA) program prepares you for entry-level positions in a variety of healthcare settings.

Applicants must pass a criminal background check and be eligible for placement in ENGL 098 and MATH 087 (minimum) as demonstrated by COMPASS placement test. Students accepted into the program must attend an orientation, have a physical exam, TB tests, vaccinations, and a background check. The school opens admissions in January for the summer quarter. Admission is based on a first come, first served basis. The application fee is $35.00.
