Top Schools for Aspiring CNAs in Saint Louis Missouri

Certified Nursing Assistants in St. Louis are under the jurisdiction of the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.  Therefore, to become a CNA in St. Louis you must meet the state-specific training requirements.  All CNAs are required to pass the state examination, even if you hold a certification as a CNA in other jurisdictions.

Training Requirements
Missouri Nursing Assistant training is composed of 75-hour theory and 100 hours of clinical (on the job) training.  The final examination tests practical skills as well as knowledge.  You are required to have completed the state examination before 6 months after receiving training or you will then have to retake the required courses again.

Students who fail the written or knowledge test can retake it two times but must pass within 90 days of the first failure.

Challenging the CNA Exam
There are some individuals who may be exempt from taking the full Missouri CNA course.  In some cases, only the examination may be required.

Those who have 12 months of experience in hospital long term care units have this option.  Nursing students who have completed the fundamentals of nursing within the previous 5 years can also challenge the state exam.  Nursing graduates who fail the licensing exam are also eligible for exam only.

You can contact the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services by telephone at 573-526-5686 or by email at Info at health.mo.gov or visit the website at http://health.mo.gov/safety/cnaregistry/ for more information regarding CNA information in the state of Missouri.
