You Got Your CNA Certification. Now What?

Author: Dennis Lindsay

Congratulations! You've completed your CNA training, passed your nursing assistant certifications exams, and now you're ready for the next step. Where do you go from here?

Obviously it is time to begin your job search. The relative swift completion of the compact CNA training course might leave you feeling unready to take on such an important role. Have confidence in yourself and what you've learned. You've got the necessary knowledge to proceed to the next step, and you will have insulation in your new career in the form of the medical professionals that will be overseeing your work.

Begin your job search online. Today many institutions post openings on their own websites or on online job search engines in order to attract potential employees not only in the area, but also those who are willing to move there to pursue a career as a certified nursing assistant. Make sure to submit your resume and any relevant info to the CNA facility in the area to ensure you are on the call list the next time a nursing home, private medical facility or hospital is hiring CNAs.

The final step will be the job interview. If you've been short-listed for a position you will be contacted to come in for an interview. This can be a nerve-wracking proposition, even for mature students who've spent significant time in the work force. Do your best to remain confident and maintain a pleasant, calm demeanor throughout the interview. The interview will be a telling sign how you can handle pressure - something that will be all too common in this particular field of work. Trust in what you've learned and answer questions clearly and concisely. Ace the interview and you are ready to start your first job as a CNA!
